Measuring Your Call Center and Getting the Most Out of Your Space

Before you start designing your call center, it’s important to know how much space you have to work with, what type of areas are required in your office, and the type of cubicles that best fit your needs. You want a workspace that complements its use, looks amazing and takes you into the future. Here is how to plan and measure your space to help you achieve that!

_____

An Office Design that is Functional

A great office design goes far beyond how an office looks and incorporates the company culture, workflow, and future growth. As you begin the design process, consider the following questions. How does your company work and use the space? Do your employees work independently or do they collaborate frequently during the day? Do employees need a big lunch area, or do they eat out or at their desk? Do you need room for a large copier or filing cabinet? Do you need an aisle for people to walk through? Do you need a receptionist area? Do you need informal huddle or break spaces? A well designed layout will meet the needs of your call center and support the use of your space. A functional office design can make a big difference in the long term satisfaction of your office environment.

The Ideal Fit for Your Space

To start designing your office, determine how much space you have to work with. A floor plan not only confirms your furniture and equipment will fit into your space, it also allows you to see where new office cubicles and furniture might fit as you grow. To get started, you will need the outline of your space. Begin by drawing all the walls, columns, cabinets and other immovable features. Make note of light switches and outlet placements. Once you have your drawing, you are ready to start your measurements. Measure all the exterior and interior walls, doorways and other features in your space. Once you have your measurements, you are ready to draw your floor plan. If you don’t want to physically draw your floor plan, there are several online software websites such as SmartDraw and EDraw that give you tools to create floor diagrams and change the dimensions and layout as needed. At Cube Solutions, we offer Free Design & Space Planning. Our expert designers will create the smartest space plan for your call center and will place all your furniture within the free design, not just the cubes. And if you already have a dimensioned floor plan from your building manager or architect, we can work with that.

The Right Call Center Cubicles

Having the right call center cubicles is one of the keys to a successful space. Telemarketing cubicles are commonly found in call center environments and come in a variety of sizes. All cubicles are made from panels which are measured by their widths and come in different heights - shorter heights to create an open setting or taller heights to give workers more privacy.

Here are some workspace sizes to consider for a call center environment:

  • 3’x2′ offers a small footprint
  • 4’x2′ is a popular sized cubicle and provides room for a filing unit
  • 4’x4′ features wide side panels, offering more personal space and room for a filing unit
  • 5’x3′ offers a good size workspace but still provides a small footprint

Here are some typical call center cubicle heights:

  • 39” features short panels offering a wide open feel
  • 47″ provides a seated semi-private space
  • 53” offers seated privacy, while still allowing good visual access by supervisors
  • 67” offers a large amount of privacy
